RAID Incorporated Introduces SATA RAID Storage Arrays in Partnership
with Promise Technology

RAID Incorporated today announced that it is introducing a new line of
3Gb per second (3Gb/s) Serial ATA (SATA) RAID storage systems from Promise
Technology, Inc.
The ORION™ line offers advanced data protection to deliver a cost-effective,
high-availability enterprise level Storage Area Network (SAN) solution.
Each building block offers dual host 2Gb Fibre Channel (FC2) ports and
12 or 15 hot-swappable drive bays in a rackmount chassis, supporting up
to 6 terabytes (TB) with 15 drives. All models launching today offer SATA
II features, including 3Gb/s speed, Native Command Queuing (NCQ), staggered
spin-up, and drive hot swap support. Available on the latest SATA-2 drives,
NCQ increases I/O performance by intelligently reordering data requests
so that data can be accessed more quickly.

The RAID ORION line provides a host of sophisticated RAID array features
including multiple logical drive support, online capacity expansion and
RAID level migration, non-volatile error logging and enhanced SMART support.

- Redundant power supplies and cooling blowers for high availability
- ECC cache memory, with battery backup to protect cached data

- Support for RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10 and 50
- LUN masking, mapping and carving enables storage resource sharing
among heterogeneous operating systems
- Multiple logical drive and LUN support
- Automatic/manual rebuild of local or global hot spare drive
- Robust error handling and recovery
- Online capacity expansion and RAID level migration to add capacity

- Vital Product Data (VPD) on all Field Replaceable Units (FRU) for

Availability and Target Markets
Initial implementations will start at 3TB 2U building blocks and will
scale to 24TB effective immediately. Future generations of the ORION enterprise
line will be geared to Data Center and High Performance Computing Environments
and will easily scale to over 1 Petabyte (PB) by the middle of 2006.
